There is a stong liturgical musical tradition in the Archdiocese of New York.  Music has always been a part of the important celebrations of the Archdiocese, from papal visits to the installation of bishops.  Training in liturgical music is deeply connected to priestly formation, and begins when students first enter the Seminary.  Find out more about the history of music education at St. Joseph's Seminary here.

One important musical event in the Archdiocese was when it hosted the International Congress of Gregorian Chant in 1920.  Find out more about the Congress here.
