The Mission's Legacy

Mission of Our Lady of the Rosary

The legacy of the Mission of Our Lady of the Rosary lives on in the stories of the women who passed through its doors. The names of these thousands of women can be found in the pages of the Mission's ledger books, which are today preserved at the Archives of the Archdiocese of New York.

The ledger books contain invaluable information about the women, including their names and hometowns, their ages, the ships on which they traveled, and the names of the family member, friend, or employer that they went to after their arrival in New York.

Through the work of the Battery Heritage Foundation, particuarly Rev. Peter Meehan and historian Maureen Murphy, the books have been digitized and are fully searchable. To view the digital archives of the Mission, please click here.
